The Martin Luther King Jr. 'Celebration of Service'

Awards + Winners:
"Do All the Good You Can" Award: Recognizes those students, faculty, and/or staff members who demonstrate characteristics of reliability and responsibility, and who reflect a willingness to accept and complete tasks that enhance the service experiences of members of the campus community. These members of our campus have demonstrated a commitment by participating in service events and activities and have performed tasks either in the planning process or during the event that has enhanced others experiences. Furthermore, they have demonstrated characteristics of a leader through hard work, reliability, and a high standard of excellence.
Winners: Dr. Kim Bjorgo-Thorne (Biology), Cara Clarke, Professor Kelly Hughes (Business), Cietta McCoy and Lucy Swecker
"Unsung Hero Award: Recognizes students, faculty, and/or staff members who have made outstanding achievements in the areas of community engagement on a local, national, or international level, and has demonstrated a commitment in areas including service, civic engagement, social justice, and leadership. These people have shown characteristics that present a high level of passion for projects and issue areas through a high number of volunteer hours, above average enthusiasm and willingness to work for a project, and/or have created new sustainable service initiatives within an organization or on Wesleyan’s campus.
Winners: Becca Bumgardner, Brandon Cale, Dr. Marvin Carr (Religion), Dr. Robert Rupp (Political Science), and Corey Nau
"Excellence in Leadership" Award: Recognizes a student who possesses strong leadership abilities and has utilized these skills to enhance the institution and its commitment to service. This is a student who exemplifies both outstanding academic achievement and leadership skills, demonstrating a willingness to inspire the campus community towards service.
Winner: Kitty Correal
"Outstanding Commitment to Service" Award: Recognizes an organization on campus that participates in a diverse collection of events, activities, and issue areas. This organization demonstrates a commitment through several community service events and activities on local, national, or international levels. It also demonstrates a high level of achievement in engagement through the creation of programs or initiatives that promote service and civic engagement and/or raises awareness of social justice issues and solutions.
Winner: Zeta Tau Alpha
Presidential "Positive Influence" Award: Recognizes an organization that outwardly promotes a commitment to service and leadership that creates a positive influence on the campus community, and/or in the greater community, and inspires all to live the mission of the institution. The organization demonstrates a commitment to service through participation in several community service events and activities on local, national, or international levels. Furthermore, it has a highly proficient level of operation through visible public relations efforts that raise awareness for issues and events, as well as influences and recruits other members of the campus community.

Winner: Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
Presidential "Wesleyan Citizenship" Award: Recognizes a student whose character highly reflects the mission of West Virginia Wesleyan College through a strong demonstration of community engagement and leadership. He or she has demonstrated diverse forms of engagement related to our mission statement such as service, service-learning, advocacy, community building, social justice, research, leadership positions, and internships. Furthermore, he or she has shown a clear demonstration of leadership skills both in academic and social settings, and has the ability to inspire other students and/or members of the campus community.
